The three common types of Asbestos
This is the most commonly used form of asbestos and can be found in roofs, ceilings, homes and buildings.
It originates mostly in Africa, but was most frequently used in cement sheets and pipe insulation. It can be found in insulating board, ceiling tiles and thermal insulation. (Some contained up to 40% Asbestos).
This is known for having the greatest heat resistance. This is the most dangerous type of asbestos and is found in spray on coatings and pipe insulation.
When asbestos fibres are breathed in, they may get trapped in the lungs and over time, these fibres can accumulate and cause scarring and inflammation, which can affect breathing along with serious diseases such as mesothelioma and asbestosis.
Asbestos related diseases won’t affect you immediately but can take anywhere between 15 – 60 years for symptoms to appear after exposure, hence the name “the hidden killer”.
On average 20 tradesmen a week die from exposure to asbestos…
